October 12th, Friday Night, 9:15 PM Israel’s Progress

Israel wants to give God praise for the healing turn he has felt in his body over the last 36 hours. The pain is under control for longer lengths of time without so much pain medication. He got his first real restful night sleep last night without the medicated feeling, & he has been able to sit up longer today!!! The surgeon came  to check in & he is pleased with the progress also!

Israel had a fellow amputee visit today who has also experienced a bilateral, above knee amputation on both legs. This visit encouraged both Israel & I to see that a person can live & walk, to an extent, with prosthetics, living a “new, normal” life!!!

I must also add that Israel’s heart rate is slowing down more each day(92 today)! Every day Israel is doing upper body exercises( which is what he’s doing in the picture) & leg exercises to ” stay in shape “.Today he really got into it!

God IS good, & Israel daily thanks The Lord for taking his legs, because he knows God has reasons & good plans for His children in every situation!

We both want to personally thank those that helped pour the concrete for our garage today & the MANY other of you dear friends who have helped, prayed, & encouraged us in myriads of ways!!!

Walking with Christ as our Guide,

October 10th, Wednesday Evening, 9:30 PM Hospital Residency Remains!

Israel continues to be a “resident” at Harborview Medical center in Seattle. The doctors are still trying to get his pain to a level where Israel can sit up more than he does( 5-10 min. stretches).

There seems to be a tingling pain at the sight of his last epidural, which gave us some concern, so he got an MRI last night to rule out any infection at the sight. The results came back as no infection!!! Praise The Lord!

His heart rate has slowed, but continues at a faster rate than normal.

We continue to wait on God’s timing for Israel to return home. His pain needs to be better controlled & Israel can only be flown on a stretcher, as sitting up is still too much for his body to handle.

With these two things needing to be dealt with, it is postponing his coming home.

Having said all that though, Israel is in good spirits & is a daily testimony of a man trusting God as being in complete control!

“He was being a “ham” at dinner time” said Cori, “when a double portion was requested on his menu & two hamburgers were brought to him! His appetite has gotten better, for which we are thankful!

” Thank you to each of you for your care & interest in our challenges & progress, as we walk through this trying experience of life.”

Here is a thought for today: ” But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. ”

October 8th , Monday Night, 10:00 Update on the Birthday Boy!

Israel is getting some wonderful healing sleep these days; it is a special gift from God.

Cori also  had some challenges today due to all that she has been through: stress, late nights, etc. She ended up with a severe migraine headache, at lease that is all that the doctors could figure out for now. It was so fierce that she ended up in the ER room for IV pain treatment. She is  slowly feeling better &  we pray that she can get well enough to continue her much needed encouragement to her dear husband in his painful times.

Cori sent this poem that she said has been a great encouragement to them.

” Our Father tests us

often with suffering & sorrow,

He tests us not to punish us, but to help us meet tomorrow,

For growing trees are strengthened when they withstand the storm,

And the sharp cut of the chisel gives the marble grace & form.

We love the sound of laughter, & the merriment of cheer,

But our hearts would lose their tenderness if we never shed a tear…”

“This abbreviated poem says so well what we see our loving Heavenly Father doing.  He does it in ways fit for each individual child He has. No two methods are the same!” , said Cori

The picture is of Israel opening a special package from his Mom (Rose).

Cori says, “She has been a real mom to Israel & I throughout these trying days & a real ” prayer warrior” . She continues to encourage Israel that Jesus will be his feet & legs, & that we just need to sit at His feet to learn.”

This was Israel’s birthday event a year ago!

Only God knows where we will be one year later.

October 6th , Saturday , 11:00 PM A Personal Note from Israel

Greetings to you all,

Well today, I (Israel) feel well enough to write the update. My lovely wife has been  doing a wonderful job letting you all know my State.

Well on Thursday night I had to return to the hospital. My pain grew greater and greater to the point that I could not bear it any more, so now I lay here in my bed again wondering which step the Lord would have me take next. I have found a great peace in the Lord in all of this. I know that the Lord has placed me here. I don’t know what His plan is yet for me, but I know that it is something. I know that my legs are gone but God will give me a new set of legs. I know that I will not be able to do everything with them, but it will be just the things that He has for me to do. I am so looking forward to doing that thing God has for me. I thank God for taking my legs even though it is a trial for me. I have found such a peace and joy in laying here on this bed with no legs. I am just thankful to have my life and it is a great miracle that I can still hold the hand of my lovely wife, and for that I am thankful for beyond measure.

I am doing much better but still in quite a bit of pain. The doctors are still trying different methods of pain killer to keep my pain under control. So please pray that we can find the answer to my pain, so that we can come home.

I would like to personally thank you all for the prayers, love, emails, money, help, and time that you all had given. Each one has given so much. Some may have more  to give than others and some may give the widows mite but it all is a lot in the sight of God. I did not ask for it, nor do I deserve it but it is a great gift .You have given a cold cup of water to one of God’s children and He promises to bless you. Again, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sometimes I think the word thank you is just not enough but I have no other words to say, but thank you from the bottom of my heart.

God bless you all,

From Israel & Cori

Just a Little Side Note from the Blog Posters: Tomorrow , October 7th, is Israel’s 26th birthday!

October 4th, Thursday Evening, 9:00 PM Israel’s Location

Israel and Cori have been very challenged the last two days. It started Tuesday when they were dismissed from Harbourview Hospital with the hospital saying that he was in good enough condition to come home. In this process of preparing him to come home on a flight he nearly passed out and had to go to a friend’s house for the night ( Tuesday) . He was in much pain and was very stressed due to all the trauma of his attempted flight back to Alaska. He slept well that night but the next day he began to be in such pain that he could not function. The treatment he received at Harbourview was not very compassionate and so they decided to try another hospital and got some good care at a Providence Hospital there ( the same one which is in Anchorage). Due to the two  hospitals not able to overlap on one patient they could not admit him into the hospital there so he went back to the friend’s house who so graciously had stopped all their plans and helped him into their home making it handicap accessible right away. Today they had to face the reality that Israel has too much pain and he was desperate for relief so they headed back to Harborview this afternoon. They are there at this moment in the ” Observation Center” of the hospital because they have no room for him. They hope to get into a room tomorrow and have some more work on his pain which is baffling the doctors as to why he is still in such pain. The doctors have used all their maximum solutions to try to get the pain and burning sensation under control and without long term success.  Needless to say their faith and patience is being tried! They would ask that you all would continue to lift them up in prayer and that the Lord would give the doctors understanding how to find a solution for Israel’s pain.

Positive Notes: Looking on the positive side for Israel and Cori , they have been very overwhelmed and  blessed with all your love and care which has been poured out for their house. The progress has already begun. Spenard Builder Supply  has really stepped in and have worked with their suppliers and have donated all the exterior windows and doors which are being installed on Saturday. They are working to do other things for them as well.

Hard Rock Plumbing is doing all the labor for the plumbing installation and working with their suppliers to help with the cost of  that as well. They have begun the work already and hope to have it completed soon!

Note: We are attempting to pour the garage concrete this Saturday , the 6th . If you have skills and want to help with this please call David at 907-232-3007 .  NEW NOTICE: The pouring of concrete has been cancelled until next Saturday, October 13th. If you would be able to still help please contact David Hale: 907-232-3007

Thoughts for Today: ” And He shall sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver: ” Malachi 3: 3 The reality that the Lord Jesus is sitting next to his refining product gives the comfort that He is not far away even in days like these that Israel and Cori are facing but is sitting right there, making sure the fire of affliction does not get too hot but does the job He wants to see done. Truly the Lord loves each of His children and never gives them more than what they can bear.

October 2, Tuesday Evening 8:15 PM Israel’s Release

Hello Everyone,

Big News! Israel got released from the hospital today . He had planned to try to fly home this week but he is not strong enough yet to get on a plane. The hospital feels that he is stable enough to be released but the fact is, between the heart rate and the pain level still going between a 3-7 regularly it makes it hard for him to be able to do anything for a long period of time. A three hour flight does not appear to be the best idea right now. They are staying with a friend in the Seattle area tonight . We need to pray that they will be able to stay out of a hospital and that his pain will stay under control. Sorry that there is no picture for today but they have had quite the day as you well can imagine!

Here is a thought for today that we can pray will be for Israel and Cori. Joshua 1:9 says, ” Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage: be not afraid , neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.”

Note: We are going to be posting news on Israel every other day from now on and will try to get a post before 10:00 PM Alaska time!
