September 20, Thursday Morning : Israel’s Pain

This picture was taken last night and the note from Cori was, ” Pain , Pain ,Pain.” Yes , Israel was and is in much pain after his surgery. They woke him up this time and so he must battle the pain awake and conscious. We can pray for his day as well as Cori’s as she sits by her husband’s bed hour after hour and tries to bring comfort. ” From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the Rock that is higher than I .” This rock is only Jesus Christ and He will give the strength in this time of need.

Thank you once again for lifting up Israel and Cori before the throne of God . They so appreciate your care.

Needs: We will be posting some needs that Israel and Cori have . We are looking for someone who would be willing to board their 3 horses this winter. Israel has all the hay and so that will be provided. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping them out in this way please send an email on the email link here on the sidebar. This would be such a help for them. Thank you in advance.

September 19, Wednesday Evening: Israel’s Surgery

Today was the big day for Israel and the doctors as they went into surgery to operate on his two legs to get them ready for his leg prosthesis. The doctor came out of surgery after  5 hours with a relieved look on his face. The surgery went the way he hoped though he says that the next several days are critical ones for Israel . The danger of water pockets and infection are very near possibilities and we need to pray that he would not develop any of these through the weekend.

The picture is of Israel being taken into surgery; he was in pain at the time of being taken in. He is having to have nerve blocks put in his legs, as the epidural isn’t doing the job. The surgeon was guardedly pleased with the outcome of the surgery, as he warned us of several complications that could arise in the healing process. One leg has ended up being shorter than his other due to more damage done to it from the accident .

Cori was definitely worried today about her husband today as he went into surgery.

We know that very few of us can imagine the kind of excruciating pain and suffering that Israel has undergone in the past week and the pain he will continue to undergo in the next few weeks and months. It is even more unimaginable that an innocent Man , Jesus Christ, was willing to suffer more pain and suffering  and die for the sins of the world than even Israel has experienced. He took this pain on Himself willingly so that we could have eternal life. Romans 5:7-8 -” For scarcely for a righteous man  will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

September 18, Tuesday Evening:

Seattle was 80* today with lots of sunshine but muggy. Israel had a better day  with his rash diminishing and his pain level at a 3-5 . He and Cori spent the day reading your precious emails , notes , and thoughts. It really helps pass the long hours with just nurses, beeps from machines, and the four same walls. They want to express their feelings of great gratitude to each one of you individually for your many heartfelt prayers and help you have given them whether financially, emotionally, or physically. They feel so unworthy and wish they could personally thank each one of you.

Israel goes in for his surgery tomorrow at 8:30 AM .

One activity Israel can still do! His sites are on the goal!

They think it should last until about noon. At this time they are not sure exactly what the surgery is going to entail and whether or not it will be his last one. They appreciate all of your prayers for wisdom for the surgeons in this time.

You can also pray that Israel can sleep. He is having a hard time sleeping with all of the beeps from his machines, nurses constantly checking on him, lights, and all the other necessary hospital procedures and yet sleep is evading him. A full night sleep would be such a blessing from the Lord.

The picture of Israel describes how he is feeling today. He is ready to start exploring his new world and using his new “tools”. He had to know how it felt to sit in a wheelchair today so he decided to try it because bed is just too boring . He worked his way into it even though all of his tubes were still hooked to his bed. He told the nurse that as soon as he can he would like to go outside with his wheelchair and they asked him how with all of his tubes. He said that it would be no problem ; just take the tubes along!

Here is a good thought for the ending of this day. This was what someone wrote in their response>

“There really are no accidents with what the Lord allows, and the Lord has always sustained us by His grace, and we know that He will sustain you too.
Wait on the Lord, Be of good courage and He will strengthen thine heart.”

September 17, Monday Evening 7:30 Israel’s Day

Hello once again and here is the evening update on Israel. . They decided to forego the surgery until Wednesday . They said the operation room was too busy today and he had quite a bit of swelling so they decided to wait. They did move him from the ICU unit into a regular room . That is a blessing for the bills!

He has had a challenging day with his pain. Israel is still thanking the Lord for this trial and though the pain is a 10+ this evening he and Cori are still looking to the Lord in the midst of this.

Thank you once again for all the wonderful notes , e-cards and comments on the blog that you have sent to encourage Cori and Israel. They have needed it and they are blessed by your words of encouragements.

Here are some words sent from Cori: “Here is a picture of Israel sitting up!!!  He continues to have a lot of pain; but he is persistent in moving his legs & is “delighted to still have his wife beside him”; these are Israel’s own words.

Thank you for your continued love, prayers,& support!

Much praise to God,

Israel ❤Cori”

Here are some closing thoughts for the day. Someone sent this in a note to Israel and Cori and we felt it was a good thought to end this hard day of Israel’s.

” I know you probably wonder “why did God allow this to happen”? but just remember God makes no mistakes, and He has everything in His hands, even though you may not see the reason now. As I was reading Joshua 1 this morning, I read a verse that I wanted to share with you…. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 (NIV)”

Email Address for Israel and Cori:

September 17, Monday 12:45 PM No Surgery Yet!

Not too much news on Israel today except that he has NOT  gone in for his surgery yet. He is very hungry and thirsty due to the fact that he was planning on being in surgery by 6:30 AM  but it didn’t happen. So he and Cori are waiting to hear the verdict for the day.

Please continue to pray for his rash as Cori says that it has increased overnight and he is very uncomfortable with it right now. They think they know what medication it is that is causing this but it may take up to 7 days to get out of his system.

He is still talking and knows fully well what’s going on including remembering that his monthly bills need to be paid!:)

We will keep you updated as we learn more!

September 16 th, Sunday evening, 8:30 Israel’s Day

Israel says, ” I don’t deserve all of this. God has been so good to me.” These are Israel’s words today. He feels overwhelmed with all the love and support from all of you. He and Cori encouraged one another today as they shared their needs and shared how he feels not handsome now without his legs. Cori assured him that she would marry him all over again!

He is struggling greatly with a rash that has started all over his body today. The nurses are trying to determine the cause and he is very itchy all over. We can pray that they may determine the cause of this. His pain level  fluctuated today between a 5-10 pain level but it has been bearable. Cori told him about his surgery tomorrow and he was fine about that.

Cori is still doing well. Kind people there in Seattle have been providing them food and encouragement and are promising to help them out with those needs this week. Cori and her mother who is with her have an apartment near the hospital so they don’t have to be far . They have that lodging for the next several days and will then see about what happens next. A car has been donated for their use as well.

We can all pray for this surgery tomorrow as they amputate more of his legs at about 8:00 AM. The Lord is able to give the doctors wisdom as they determine what would be the best for Israel’s future. ” If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally , and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith,, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is a like a wave of the sea driven with he wind and tossed.” James 1:5,6

A good thought for the day: In Job 1: 21 Job said, ” …The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. “This is a good testimony of a man in the Bible who still would praise God even after the most difficult situations in his life. Satan thought that Job would not bless  God but curse God .  God found Job a man who did not sin with his lips in accusing God of being of unfair.

September 16th, Sunday 10:00 AM

We just talked with Cori this morning who has been talking with Israel more clearly than ever. He woke up more clear of mind and was asked if he wanted to sit up  on the edge of his bed with his legs off the bed. They said,” Are you really sure you want to do this?” Of course, Israel , the person he is, said,” Yes, for sure!” He swung himself over and they had him exercise his two legs . Cori was shocked at how well he moved his legs and was so encouraged just to see her husband able to move his legs! He sat up for three minutes.  He was in terrible pain last night , his pain being rated at 1 , the least amount of pain, to 10 the worst. He was at an 11-12 number last night and hardly had any sleep. Today, praise the Lord , he is at a 5. He is very tired but gaining strength . He goes in for his big surgery tomorrow.

We really want to thank all of you who have sent emails, cards, donations, offers to help, phone calls to encourage, and all the other kind touches. Our words cannot express how thankful we are for a community of people who have pulled together to help in such a difficult situation and the countless prayers that have been lifted up for Israel . WE can see today that God has been working great things in Israel’s healing on behalf of so many prayers!

Cori has been reading the emails that people have been sending. That email address is: if you would like to send an email message to her as well. She has been very encouraged by these emails.

This verse is in Psalm 147: 9-11 and summarizes the Lord’s heart : ” He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.”

September 15th, 10:00 PM Israel’s Day Fighting Pain

Israel has had quite the day trying to cope with the terrible pain he’s been facing today. He got an epidermal in his back today, in an attempt to give him some relief from pain & the phantom pain of nerves telling him his feet & shins are crushed.

The Dr.s are happy with all his vital signs; it’s just the pain they haven’t been able to control yet. Israel may be moved soon from the ICU room as he has stabilized; praise the Lord!

Now he faces the uphill climb of ( hopefully only one more )amputation surgery on Mon. & than the SLOW process of healing/ rehabilitation/ re- adjusting,…

“Thank you to all our MANY friends & family who are praying, helping, supporting, encouraging, … In SO many facets of this traumatic time for us!!!”❤ Cori

September 14th at 9:00 News on Israel’s Wake-Up

We talked with Cori last night and learned that Israel’s breathing tube was removed and he is out of his induced coma . Cori spoke with him for the first time last night after 5 1/2 days ! His first words out of his mouth were,” How is the person that hit me? Are they o.k.?” He breathed a tremendous sigh of relief after hearing of her well being.  Cori then proceeded to start to tell him about his legs by telling Israel that it is such a blessing that he is not paralyzed. He asked her several times as to whether he was paralyzed or not. He thought that he was all this time! She was able to assure him that he is not. His thoughts on his legs were,” Maybe they can give me fake legs.” He also shed tears hearing this as he told Cori, ” Now I won’t be able to finish building our house!” He also said to Cori,” We can’t have anyone else do it because we won’t be able to afford it. ” Cori assured him that the Lord was taking care of that. It was a hard moment for him!

He was in tremendous pain last night even with several doses of morphine and other heavy pain medications. This was part of the reason they had kept him in induced coma to help him through this very painful time. He was not able to speak much as the pain was so great. Cori assured him that it would not last forever and to hang in there. It is hard for Cori to see him in such pain . We can pray that the Lord will giver her grace as she watches her husband  and for Israel that he might have soon relief from the pain.

Cori went over all the good things with Israel that the Lord has done, namely that he is not paralyzed . She is standing fast in thankfulness to the Lord who is good.

These are words from Cori this Morning…..

Israel was supposed to go into surgery for more amputation this morning but they cancelled it; see Cori’s note below.

“Stayed with moms friend Teri last night, might again tonight ( its an hour away with traffic) . Israel’s well no amputation till Monday now; he needs more time to heal. Dr says he’ll be in a wheelchair A LOT in his life; so recommended wheelchair access home, bathroom, counters, sinks, doorways, car/&/or van( that can be driven & controlled by hand levers).. etc…. A little hard to hear, but God is in charge.

Thanks for all you’re doing & your care & prayers!!!”
