September 18, Tuesday Evening:

Seattle was 80* today with lots of sunshine but muggy. Israel had a better day  with his rash diminishing and his pain level at a 3-5 . He and Cori spent the day reading your precious emails , notes , and thoughts. It really helps pass the long hours with just nurses, beeps from machines, and the four same walls. They want to express their feelings of great gratitude to each one of you individually for your many heartfelt prayers and help you have given them whether financially, emotionally, or physically. They feel so unworthy and wish they could personally thank each one of you.

Israel goes in for his surgery tomorrow at 8:30 AM .

One activity Israel can still do! His sites are on the goal!

They think it should last until about noon. At this time they are not sure exactly what the surgery is going to entail and whether or not it will be his last one. They appreciate all of your prayers for wisdom for the surgeons in this time.

You can also pray that Israel can sleep. He is having a hard time sleeping with all of the beeps from his machines, nurses constantly checking on him, lights, and all the other necessary hospital procedures and yet sleep is evading him. A full night sleep would be such a blessing from the Lord.

The picture of Israel describes how he is feeling today. He is ready to start exploring his new world and using his new “tools”. He had to know how it felt to sit in a wheelchair today so he decided to try it because bed is just too boring . He worked his way into it even though all of his tubes were still hooked to his bed. He told the nurse that as soon as he can he would like to go outside with his wheelchair and they asked him how with all of his tubes. He said that it would be no problem ; just take the tubes along!

Here is a good thought for the ending of this day. This was what someone wrote in their response>

“There really are no accidents with what the Lord allows, and the Lord has always sustained us by His grace, and we know that He will sustain you too.
Wait on the Lord, Be of good courage and He will strengthen thine heart.”

  1. What a remarkable young couple! I know God has a special purpose for you, and this is the beginning, not the end. You both are so inspirational.

  2. Israel and Cori,
We want you to know we are praying for you. May the Lord give you peace through this time. He will carry you through this.
We are also experiencing a long time in the Providence Hospital right now, with our Premie(1 lb 10 oz) baby. It is not easy, and you do get stir crazy at times, but we just have to make the best of it. We pray the Lord gives you many opportunities to be a witness for Him, to those around you.
We don’t understand the reason behind these trials we are going through, but we do know that God has a plan for our lives. It may be years before we can understand His purpose behind it all.
We thank the Lord for both of you, and your friendship, and hope to get to spend some time visiting in the future.
We’ll be thinking of you often and praying for you much!

  3. It is so wonderful to hear how rapidly you are healing Israel. Just as quickly as my little lamb rosie recovered after you and your sister assisted in her survival. I marvel at you and Cori’s strength, courage and love. I have no doubt that all the prayers everyone is sending is surely helping and I know that with all the love in your hearts you will be back to a fairly normal routine soon. Sending you all my hopes, prayers and love.

  4. Prayers for a successful surgery. Israel is strong and has a great will to live and succeed; he will do well. Hang tight Cori. 🙂

  5. Good morning Israel and Cori!
We are so inspired by the beautiful letters of love God is sending your way through the hands of people! Such reminders of hope are such an encouragement and we are humbled to see Gods’ mighty hand reaching out to your needs this way-He truly cares for you.
A thought concerning your accident came to me from Jesus words in Matt 15:2 “…every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit”. May this knowledge that God cares for your best, comfort your heart when we understand not His ways.
And another one from Johns gospel Ch. 9, “And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying Master who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him”. Those poor men had so mis-understood Gods heart!
Gods’ only motivation is love, and has chosen to manifest the work of His great love thorough you, even if we mortals cannot comprehend the ‘whys’ of it all, and by the response of all the caring people I am seeing, this so evident.
The sermon of your life is inspiring others to face their trials by looking to Christ who is sufficient, far beyond what a sermon of words can ever do!
Although outward, worldly success is a blessing from God, the inward joy of fellowship with Christ is far superior, and as you seek Him first He will personally meet all of your future needs miraculously through the hands of loving people whose hearts He moves to share your burdens!
May you be encouraged to look at life anew through the lens of trusting Gods love in everything, seeing Jesus moving unseen on your behalf.

  6. It is so good to see you smiling Isreal. We are so glad your pain is less today! We will keep praying for you and your surgery. Can’t tell you how much the other comments are meaning to us. We love you guys!
    Love in Christ,
    Brad, Stacie and family

  7. Oh, dear Israel and Cori, what a blessing you are to all of us. We receive strength and inspiration from your daily journals. You are in our every prayer, and we pray for your surgeons, your family, and your return to Alaska. God bless, Al and Gretchen Strawn

  8. May our Lord, who healed the blind, the lame and the lepers who came to Him in faith, lay His hand on the shoulders of those who are caring for you. I will pray that the surgeon who does your surgery is led by the Holy Spirit and you continue to feel the presence of Jesus during this difficult time. Jackie Welle

  9. Hello Israel – this is the tax lady from Fairbanks. I heard about your accident from the family in Palmer and my family and I have been praying daily for you. Thanks for maintaining the blog – it helps us to pray with understanding and we’re encouraged as we see your daily healing. I’ve been praying from 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 for you: “Praise be the the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, SO THAT we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”
I believe you will be a tremendous comfort now and through the years for others who go through hardship, as you are allowing this experience to be a refining time in your life.
    God bless you!
    Arlene Koenig and family
